The San Francisco 49ers have had one of the best defenses in football for quite some time, sporting a top-five defense in yards allowed each of the last four seasons. Unfortunately, former first-round pick Taco Charlton will not be a part of their feared defense this coming season.

Charlton was a standout player at Michigan, which led to the Dallas Cowboys selecting him with the No. 28 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Unfortunately, things have simply not panned out for Charlton in the NFL, spending his first six NFL seasons on five different teams. Charlton has also only started 13 games since entering the league in 2017.

He will again need to look elsewhere to potentially revive his NFL career, as he was released by the 49ers on Sunday after reaching an injury settlement after going on IR earlier this month.

The cutdown has begun, although Charlton wasn't even part of the 90-man roster anyway because of IR

Charlton will now have only two weeks to find an interested team elsewhere to bring him in before the start of the regular season. That is if he is even healthy enough to play for any interested teams. And given his failure to latch on with teams in the past, fans are certainly not optimistic that will happen.

So no Taco Sundays for Niners

Does that officially make him a bust ?

Considering Charlton was once selected over players like T.J. Watt, Budda Baker, and Dalvin Cook in the draft, it’s pretty hard to say that his career to this point can be considered anything other than a massive bust.
